The Federal Open Market Committee raised the federal funds target range to 3.75–4% on 16 September. The statement received a 12–0 vote. The Committee said inflation remained elevated and described economic activity as expanding at a solid pace.
The release also described resilient domestic spending, strong productivity growth and robust capital investment. It retained the policy of maintaining ample reserves in the banking system.
For borrowers, the next question is how the decision reaches a particular financing agreement. A floating-rate loan may reset on a specified schedule; fixed-rate debt and hedged exposures behave differently. The policy announcement establishes the new target range, while a company’s actual interest expense depends on its debt structure and contractual terms.
